News shared by one of my Naval Leaders...  read on:

In California, the "Move-over" law become operative on January 1, 2010.

http://www.moveoveramerica.com/

Important Law to Share:

I wanted to let my Medlock Bridge neighbors know about the CA move over law.
My son got a ticket on Pleasant Hill coming back from Wal-Mart. A Duluth
police car (turned out it was 2 police cars) was on the side of the road
giving a ticket to someone else. My son slowed down to pass but did not move
into the other lane. The second police car immediately pulled him over and
gave him a ticket. My son and I had never heard of the law. It is a fairly
new law that states if any emergency vehicle is on the side of the road, if
you are able, you are to move into the far lane.

The cost of the ticket was $754, with 3 points on your license and a
mandatory court appearance.

Please let everyone you know that drives about this new law.

It is true (see details at the following web address). It states that except
two states, all the other US states (even Canada ) enacted similar kind of
law.

Sounds like a $$$ maker law....I know of people over here in NY that received tickets for moving into the other lane.....Seems your son's penalties (points & $$$$) are a bit over the top, if you ask me.  Maybe the Governator is trying to bring in some easy funds.

Was your son fined for anything else? The link says in CA that the fine is not more than $50. Also in one place it says move over or slow down and in another it says slow down and move over if possible. It says this was already law but that it noe includes Caltrans and removed the expiration date making it a permanent law. It is odd that this wasn't publicized more. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

This did not directly impact me or my family...  This is just information shared with you all, as it was passed to me.   Undecided

This story actually takes place in GA.  In looks like someone changed it to CA.  There is a CA law that went into affect this year basically adding Cal-Tran works to the list that requires motorist to slow down and move over if possible.  The below quote is what I got from another website.

the CA law says it's a max $50 fine like queenlives post, where did $700 and 3 points come from, the guy must have been doing donuts around the cop.

Also Medlock Bridge is in GA.

Gooling: looks like someone changed GA to CA to make it more interesting (the fine is very high there) but didn't change the details.

Sorry Dean, I must have misread that. Now it seems to make a little more sense. Still it was good that it was brought to our attention, I wasn't reall aware that you could be ticketed for that sort of thing. Thanks!
